PROFESSOR DAVID AWANBOR-
(TC II, NCE, B.Sc., M.Ed, EdD(Boston University))
Professor David Awanbor was appointed Registrar/Chief
Executive of National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB)
in July 2002
An astute administrator and academic, Prof. Awanbor
was the Dean of the Faculty of Education and member of the Governing
Council, University of Benin. Born on December 3, 1943 in Uhunmwode
Local Government Area of Edo State, Prof. Awanbor’s educational
pursuit saw him through the Government College, Ilesha (1963 –
1965); University of Lagos, College of Education (1967 – 1970);
Moray House College of Education, Edinburgh, United Kingdom (1973 –
1974) and Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, U. S. A. (1975 –
1980).
Prof. Awanbor’s experience in Educational Administration
dates back to 1971 when he became Assistant Education Officer and rose
to the position of Senior Assistant Inspector of Education in 1972.
He also served as the Regional Coordinator, Massachusetts State Department
of Education, Boston, USA (1979 – 80); Regional Coordinator of
the Obafemi Awolowo University UNESCO Research Project on Exceptional
Children in Nigeria and Coordinator, UNICEF/Federal Ministry of Education
SAPA Project (1992).
Apart from having a stint with the Governing Board
of NABTEB, Awanbor was the Director, Centre for Educational Technology,
University of Benin and had presented papers on harnessing the nation’s
technological potentials for sustainable development through the promotion
of Technical and Vocational Education before the lot fell on him as
the Registrar/Chief Executive of NABTEB on July 8, 2002. Barely three
months after his assumption of office, he was elected the Executive
Secretary of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA).
Awanbor’s experience as Chairman, Senior Staff
Disciplinary Committee, University of Benin, Benin; Member, Presidential
National Committee on Assets and Liabilities Sharing coupled with his
status as UNESCO International Consultant and tenacity of purpose are
some of the factors that will facilitate the actualization of this noble
vision for NABTEB in particular and Nigeria in general.
