BOROKINNI, OLUBUNMI JOSEPH
Mr.Borokinni, Olubunmi Joseph was born at Ijare in Ifedore L.G.A. of Ondo State, Nigeria. He attended St. Peter’s Pry School, Ijare between 1964-69; Anglican Grammar School, Ijare between 1972-78 with Division one, University of Nigeria, Nsukka 1978-82 with a BSc in Computer Science; and University of Ife, (now Obafemi Awolowo University) Ile-Ife, 1984-86 a Master’s Degree with Distinction in Computer Science.
In High School, he served in various capacities as Class Captain, House Captain and Dining Prefect. He received prizes as the best Mathematics student, best behaved student and several prizes in athletics. As a University undergraduate, he served as the Chairman of Conference Organizing Committee of National Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS) UNN Branch.
Since he joined National Business & Technical Examinations Board in 1999 as a Deputy Director in the Department of ICT, he has served in several committees as a member or chairman. In 2009 he was appointed Acting Head of Department of ICT. In this capacity, he has brought in professionalism to ICT development by computerizing a number of functions using in-house programmers and introduced efficiency to the polity.
In 2006-2008 he served as a Volunteer Expatriate Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, University of Gondar, Ethiopia. He was appointed the chairman of final year project committee for two consecutive years, organizer of seminar in computer science and a SAS/SPSS facilitator on Research methodology workshop for the academic staff of the University.
Between 1996 and 1999, he worked in Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Warri as an IT Trainer and later as a Business Analyst. He served in the committee of Contract Staff Management Project (COSMAP) , a member of committee on Edjeba Learning Village, a Community Affairs, Safety, Health, Environment and Security (CASHES) focal Point for Corporate Training Group (CTGW), West division) and a member of the committee for the setting up of Information Technology Resource Centre, Edjeba.
In 1990 he was appointed a Research/Training Officer by Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC), Lagos. He developed excellent Information Technology (IT) courses for the institution in 1992; he became a Manager (Research and Training). He set the Computer Unit of the institution and rose to the position of a Senior Manager (Computer and Training) and Head of Central Services before joining Shell in 1996.
Mr.Borokinni started his professional career in 1986 at University of Ilorin, Computer Centre as a Programmer 1/ Analyst 1 and a Station Manager. He was a Statistical Application System (SAS) designated Technical Consultant for the University.
He had a little stint in Ooni Girls High School, Ile-Ife between 1983 and 1986 as a Mathematics Teacher, Head of Mathematics Department and Financial Secretary of Parents-Teachers Association (PTA). In 1982-83; he was posted to Computer Department, University of Ife, Ile-Ife for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
He travelled extensively in Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia and the UK and he has written several papers in ICT and Training in Local and International Journals.
He is a Member of Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria.
